Four-Ball Championship
A long-running WPGA team competition, the WPGA Four-Ball Championship began in 1939 and has emerged as a popular late season competition on the West Penn Golf schedule.
Featuring the most common form of team play in Western Pennsylvania, Four-Ball, the Championship is 36 holes of stroke play in a single day.
When the championship began in 1939, it was originally intended for members of the same WPGA-affiliated club. Now, however, teammates may belong to any member club in the Association.
Through the years, some of the top amateur golfers in Western Pennsylvania have won the WPGA Four-Ball Championship, including Nathan Smith, Frank Fuhrer III and Sean Knapp.
The champions of the inaugural WPGA Four-Ball were L.R. Siebert and Jack Benson.
The winners of the WPGA Four-Ball Championship receive the Joseph Shea Alexander Trophy.
