Brothers Tournament

First contested in 1950 in honor of two brothers who had been killed in World War II, the WPGA Brothers Tournament has been held all but one year at Shannopin Country Club.

The competitions, which features 18 holes of Chapman format stroke play, are open to teams of two brothers and include a gross and net division.

Shannopin Country Club has held the event all but one year, with Green Oaks Country Club hosting in 2010. The first Brothers Tournament was won by Bud and Dick Semple, for whom the Association's WPGA Semple Century Foursomes Championship is now named after. 

Brothers Chick and Rob Wagner have won the event a record 11 times. Impressively, their wins have spanned four different decades with the first coming in 1979 and the most recent coming in 2017.

Jack and George Benson won the tournament seven times, while Ronald and David DeNunzio have claimed victories four times. In 2024, the tandem of Parker and Tanner Johnson won the Brothers Tournament with a record score of 10-under.

 Brothers Dick and Frank Fuhrer Jr. played in the event a remarkable 55 times, winning in 1960, while brothers Dave and Perry Graciano claimed three titles, winning their second and third Brothers Tournaments 32 years apart.

In 2018, the competition expanded to include a Net Tournament division, opening the tournament to competitors with varying skill levels.

The WPGA Brothers Tournament trophy is named the Hugh F. McKnight Memorial Trophy in honor of Hugh Ferguson McKnight Jr., a Lieutenant Junior Grade in the U.S. Navy who was deemed Missing in Action, Lost at sea during World War II after his submarine, the USS Robalo, hit a mine in the Pacific.

McKnight Jr., who received the Purple Heart posthumously, had deep family ties to the region surrounding Shannopin Country Club.
